Available options to study medicine abroad

US clinical rotations

Do you plan to study medicine abroad? With the rising competition in medical education in India, it’s nearly impossible for an average student to secure a seat in a good medical school. The entrance test system used to allot medical seats in India has been challenged multiple times, and it won’t be wrong to say that it’s not entirely fair. Sometimes, a person who could have been a great physician loses hope of achieving his dream due to this flawed education system

CompetitionThat’s probably why about 10-15% of Indian people who study medicine look for options abroad. The first world countries like U.S.A, Canada, and U.K. are their first choice. However, it’s also a fact that these countries have very strict guidelines for foreign medical students, and there’s not much scope of anyone getting into these either.

Another excellent option is the Caribbean medical schools. A lot of people are now opting for studying medicine in the Caribbean countries. A lot of these schools are accredited by top medical boards like IMED. In fact, as an aspiring medical student, you should always choose an accredited school or you may lose chances of being recognized to legally practice medicine in a lot of countries in the world.

Through Caribbean medical schools, you can also pursue the dream of practicing medicine in the first world countries like U.S.A. Such schools have tie-ups for US clinical rotations and after passing an exam, you can practice in these countries as a physician like any other physician who has studied from a U.S. medical school or other such top-tier institute.

Cost
The cost of medical education in India as well as abroad is very high. If you don’t plan to study in India, you will need to spend close to 7-10 crore rupees to obtain an undergraduate degree in a U.S. medical school. That’s way beyond an average middle-class individual can afford. Again, the fee for Caribbean medical school and other such schools in abroad is comparatively lower.

In fact, contrary to the general view, top three countries to study medicine abroad don’t include U.S.A, Canada or Britain. Those are the Philippines, Caribbean, and Ukraine. These three countries have acquired this position because they offer less competition and have less strict policies for allowing international students to enter the medical schools. The finances for studying medicine in these countries are much more affordable, and these schools promise nearly the same standards and prospects to a medical student as a medical school in top tier countries would. Therefore, one should look beyond the so-called lucrative options in the first world countries and check the options to study medicine that is genuinely excellent from all aspects. Also, check out AUSOM if you want a recommendation for a good Caribbean school.
